Under no circumstances should you smoke following your dental procedure. Smoking can damage your gums and interfere with the healing process. Smoking increases your chances of infection, implant failure and bone graft failure. Smokers have the highest rates of implant failure.
It is okay to eat about an hour after your procedure. Be sure to avoid any hot foods and liquids for atleast 24 hours. Be sure to only easy soft non crunchy foods.
The overall procedure can take as long as a year from start to finish, but this time frame can also be much shorter. Consult your dental care professional to get an exact answer.
